Eye Exams for the Whole Family

We offer several types of eye exams to match your age, needs, and lifestyle. Whether you’re booking for yourself, your child, or a family member managing a medical condition, you’ll find what you need right here in West Valley City.

Our eye exam options include:

  • Routine Vision Exams: For annual checkups, school screenings, vision changes, and overall eye health.

  • Pediatric Eye Exams: Kid-friendly exams starting at 6 months old to support your child’s healthy development, learning, and confidence.

  • Contact Lens Exams: Including first-time fittings, prescription updates, and specialty lenses for dry eyes, astigmatism, and more.

  • Prescription Updates: Need a new glasses or contacts prescription? We can help with quick, accurate refractions and eyewear assistance.

  • Diabetic Eye Exams: We monitor your vision and retinal health using advanced imaging to help protect against long-term damage from diabetes.

What's included in your eye exam?

Our eye exams are designed to provide a detailed assessment of your vision and eye health. Using advanced imaging and time-tested clinical care, we check more than just how well you see. We examine the health of your eyes from front to back, looking for early signs of issues that could affect your long-term sight. Here’s what’s typically included in your exam:

  • Vision Testing: We measure how clearly you see at various distances to determine if you need glasses or contact lenses.

  • Eye Pressure Testing: A gentle test that checks for signs of glaucoma and other pressure-related eye conditions.

  • Retinal Imaging: With our Optos system, we capture wide-field images of your retina without dilation in most cases.

  • Cornea and Lens Evaluation: We look for early signs of cataracts, dryness, or other changes that may affect your vision.

  • Refraction: This is the part where we fine-tune your prescription for glasses or contact lenses, if needed.

  • Medical History & Eye Health Review: We’ll ask about any changes in your vision, overall health, medications, and family history.

We tailor each exam to your age, risk factors, and any symptoms you may be experiencing.

What to Expect at Mountain West Eyecare

Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, we want you to feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. Our friendly front desk team will greet you and help you get checked in quickly. Then, one of our trained technicians will guide you through the pre-testing process before you meet with our eye doctor.

During your exam, Dr. Bethany Gillett will walk you through every step, explain your results clearly, and answer any questions you may have. Most exams take about 30–45 minutes, and if you’re updating your prescription, we’ll help you browse frames or talk about your contact lens options.

When Should I Schedule an Eye Exam?

Everyone’s eyes are different, but regular eye exams are one of the best ways to protect your vision. If you’re not sure how often to come in, here are some general guidelines:

  • Every year, for adults and teens, especially if you wear glasses or contacts.

  • Every year, for children, starting around age 1 and again before kindergarten.

  • Annually, if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease.

  • Every 1–2 years after age 40, even if your vision seems fine.

  • Immediately, if you're noticing changes in your vision or experiencing pain.

Even if your eyes feel fine, a yearly eye exam helps us track subtle changes over time and catch any early signs of concern.
